Peter felt he had found a home and new family when he joined St Mary’s Church, West Armidale several years ago. Last year, Peter married his partner in accordance with the Marriage Act and Peter's husband joined the organising committee for St Mary’s 125th anniversary.
But recently, the two men were advised by the Dean of the Cathedral that they are not "living in a Biblical manner" and were barred from continuing in their roles. This action is supported by the Bishop of the Armidale Diocese.
The two men cannot accept these conditions, and as their friends and fellow parishioners, we stand with them. Peter and his husband have brought nothing but happiness, love, and care to St Mary's. We value them as members of the congregation, and could not bear to see their loving marriage ended.
In 2017, Australia voted YES to marriage equality. But four years later, a same-sex married couple in Armidale, NSW, have been forced to leave their roles at St Mary’s Anglican Church in West Armidale.
Please, will you email the Anglican Diocese of Armidale urging them to allow Peter and his husband to return to the congregation who love them, and ask them to be open to and inclusive of ALL?
If you edit the email template in any way, please remain polite and respectful.
