In 2018, the Morrison Government promised to prevent schools from being able to expel LGBTQ+ students. Last week, we've seen a real-world example of why that protection is so necessary, with Citipointe Christian College demanding parents sign an enrolment contract that states that the school can terminate a child’s enrolment based on sexual orientation, gender identity or sexual activity.

I am one of 150,000 Australians who signed the petition (Change.org/EducateDontDiscriminate) calling on the college to reverse that decision.

While the college has now withdrawn the amended enrolment contract, had the Morrison Government delivered on the promise it made during the 2018 Wentworth by-election, colleges like this one around Australia would not have the power to make this demand of parents, and LGBTQ+ students would be protected from discrimination.

Why has the Morrison Government failed to pass these reforms, and instead poured so much time and energy into passing its Religious Discrimination Bill, which will make matters worse by allowing new forms of discrimination against LGBTIQ+ people, women, people with disability and even people of faith?

Please, I urge you to stand up for young LGBTQ+ people and withdraw the Religious Discrimination Bill. I urge you to help pass reforms that protect LGBTIQ+ students in schools. They deserve a safe, supportive learning environment.
